‘Tis October the first, my friends! Unbelievable how quickly time has flown… The hubby and I were just reminiscing last night on this past year. On October 9th, it will be our one year wedding anniversary! Craziness. Pure craziness.
As I was thinking about the fact that it’s already the first of October, I concluded that I think October is my favorite month of the year. October is my favorite month for several reasons:
- October 9th=wedding anniversary
- Change of colors on the trees which is just BE-A-UTIFUL (especially because I was deprived of a “true” Fall my whole life in AZ)
- Perfect weather (in Utah, at least)…
- Sweaters, jeans, and boots
- All things pumpkin – YES PLEASE
- Fall decor… I just love all the pretty wreaths, pumpkins, candles
- Sweet potatoes and apples are abundant
In honor of the first of the month, I thought I’d make some goals for the month of October. I’ve seen several other bloggers out there list their goals for each month, and then they reviewed how well they did with them at the end. I decided I’m going to keep my goals within the health and fitness realm. I’m a very goal oriented person, so I thought it’d be a great idea! Here we go…
Goal #1: Buy a treadmill.
I’ve really gotten into running the past couple years, but I am not a person that is okay with running in 30 degree (or lower) weather. Last year I worked at the gym, so I had access to treadmills 24/7. However, the great outdoors have been my treadmill for the past six months or so. I would MUCH rather run outside in nice weather, but I’d definitely opt for the treadmill when it’s snowing and 25 degrees outside any day. Sooo to keep up on my running throughout the winter, I would like to buy a treadmill by the end of October to make sure I have it before it gets too chilly.
Goal #2: Slow down on the ice cream/frozen yogurt.
Umm yes, I have a serious addiction to ice cream and/or frozen yogurt. It’s bad folks. Haha, ok it’s not really THAT bad, but I probably need to stop buying ice cream so much. If it’s in our freezer (which it has been a lot these days), it calls my name every night and won’t leave me alone. I decided that after we finish the container of ice cream currently in our freezer, I’m going to hold off from buying it from the store. My goal for October is to keep it only for special occasions such as a frozen yogurt date on the weekend or if we have a coupon that I can’t resist using. My hope is that by November, I won’t crave it as much because it’ll be so darn cold that I won’t want any. (Yeah right, I ate ice cream all the time last winter… yep, I’m that addicted.)
Goal #3: Increase my running mileage to five miles outside.
Right now, I can comfortably cover four miles outside, but I’d like to increase that to five by the end of the month. That may not seem like much of an increase to you big runners out there, but 4 miles has probably been the longest distance I’ve ever run in my life. (P.S. I decided I’m going to work up to a half marathon in June 2012!)
Goal #4: Get better at remembering to pack a midday snack on work days.
Lately I’ve been really bad at remembering to pack a midday snack, and I’m starving by the time I get home. By that point, I feel like I could eat our entire refrigerator AND pantry.
Goal #5: Cook a whole chicken by myself.
I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, but I always keep putting it off. Julie mentioned she did one recently and how surprisingly easy she thought it was, so it inspired me that I just need to do it. No excuses this month!
There you have it! I’m excited to take on my goals for this month. I’ll let you know how I did at the end of October!
