Oh yes, that dreaded word, cravings.  I don’t know about you, but cravings annoy the heck out of me!  Whenever I start to crave something like crazy, I often can’t get it out of my head.  It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does, it’s usually a craving for something sweet (thanks a lot sweet tooth!). 


Well, last night was one of those times when I had one of those intense cravings that just wouldn’t go away.  This is how it happened…

I was craving something a little sweet after dinner.

I started to think about my options.

Nothing in our refrigerator or pantry sounded good to me.

Dreyer’s Pumpkin Ice Cream that has been staring me down at the grocery store lately came to mind.

It immediately sounded perfect to me, but I really didn’t want to drive to the grocery store AND I didn’t really want ice cream in the house since I’ve been trying to cut back on it

I decided to go for a walk with the dogs, hoping that the craving would subside. 

After our walk a half hour later, I was still madly craving the pumpkin ice cream.

I decided to go for it. 

I went to the store and bought some.

I had a couple scoops and decided it was so worth it!

Whenever I get a mad craving, I try to distract myself for at least 20 minutes.  If the craving thoughts are still there 20 minutes later, I go for it.  If they’re gone, then they’re gone and I forget about them.  Obviously they didn’t go away last night, so I went for it.  The pumpkin ice cream was fantastic, and it totally cured my craving.  Not only that, but the Dreyer’s brand is pretty low in fat and calories – score!  Although, to be honest, calories and fat were the last thing I was thinking about while enjoying my ice cream last night. 😉

    I’m the same way about cravings, sometimes it’s just best to eat what you really want. I find I try and eat other things if what I’m craving isn’t in my house and end up eating more trying to satisfy the craving than I would if I had just gone and gotten what I wanted!

    When I’m craving something and can’t decide if I really want it or if it’s just in my head cause I saw it, I’ll sit down for a little bit and really think about what I want. Most of the time, it’s it! I think it’s important to give into our cravings. Otherwise, we’d eat something else, then prob end up eating what we really wanted on top of it!

    Yes!! I love love Dreyer’s slow churned anything, and that pumpkin flavor is to die for!

    Most of the time I act on a craving since whenever I avoid it, I end up wanting it more and then over doing it way too much…so if I give into it at that moment, I’m better about having it in moderation than going crazy and overindulging in it. Good for you in indulging in it and enjoying the moment, that’s what life is all about :)

    And the cravings? Always always sweet! 😉

    I definitely get cravings a lot & it’s almost always for something sweet! I’ve found I’m better off giving into my cravings (if they’re somewhat reasonable) because if I don’t, I usually end up eating twice as much of something I didn’t really want to begin with!

    I have got to get my hands on some of that pumpkin ice cream… and I like that it’s a bit healthier too! I have trouble figuring out what my cravings are… but know I feel so much better when I listen to them and feed myself what I truly want
