WIAW {What I Ate Wednesday} #21: Valentine’s Day Dinner

by Ashley on February 15, 2012

First off, I want to thank the lovely Jenny for giving my little blog quite the impressive makeover!  I’ve been wanting to do this for quite awhile, so to finally have it done is quite exciting!  Not to mention that I absolutely love it.  If you run into any problems with posts or pages you’re viewing, let me know so I can figure it out.  Smile

************************************************************************

With that, let’s move on to some What I Ate Wednesday FUN!  Thanks to Jenn over at Peas and Crayons for hosting such a fun event each Wednesday!  If you’re new to What I Ate Wednesday, head on over to Jenn’s WIAW page that explains it all.

Peas and Crayons

This week I’m going to do things a little differently and skip over my breakfast, lunch, and snacks so I can get straight to the Valentine’s Day dinner that my husband made for us!  Let’s be honest, my other meals and snacks were pretty similar to what you saw last week anyways.

Let me start by giving you a little background on my husband’s cooking abilities.  I love him dearly, but let’s just say I didn’t marry him for his cooking skills.  Winking smile  I’m the one that usually takes over in the kitchen with him being my “taste tester”.  He can make a mean grilled steak or chicken, a delicious pizza, or some Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese, but it pretty much ends there.

Needless to say, he surprised me big time last night when I sat down to a chicken marsala meal.  It smelled heavenly, but the true test is the first bite of course.  I took a bite and couldn’t help but to “oooh and ahhh” over how wonderful it tasted!  He impressed me big time!  (I know it’s nothing too colorful or exciting to look at it, but trust me when I tell you it tasted amazing!)

He served us a green spinach salad with chopped tomato, topped with balsamic vinaigrette on the side (he knows I love my VEGGIES!), and a glass of my favorite Barefoot Moscato wine.

I enjoyed every last bite!  I told him I have high expectations of him making this again for us in the near future.  Sheesh, he would’ve really won me over if he made this meal for us when we were dating! Winking smile

It really was such a nice and relaxing evening in.  We were sure to squeeze in an episode of 24 on Netflix and just enjoy one another’s company.  Oh, and I couldn’t let the day end without a Reese’s Heart, which I enjoyed for my dessert.  LOVE those things…  They just seem to magically disappear into my belly so quickly though!  I wish they lasted longer.

I suppose you might want to see what I did for Cody too.  Nothing too crazy, but I wanted to put a smile on his face and make him feel special.  Even if it is a “Hallmark holiday”… If I can have an excuse to spoil him, I’ll take it.  I copied Julie on this one, and made him a little poster card with a note on it using candy hearts.  This was so much fun to make and totally corny, but he liked it and got a laugh out of it.

Alongside the poster card, I got him some Reese’s Hearts (obviously!) and his favorite chocolate chip cookies from Paradise Bakery.  He was a fan and loved his little gifts.

Ok, so I know this WIAW post was totally not “veg-ified” like February’s theme requests, but I couldn’t help but to share such a delicious meal!  I’ll be back next week for some more vegetables, but until then, eat your veggies and LOVE ‘em!  Happy Wednesday!

What nice husband Ashley! He definitely earned some major brownie points with that meal :-) last night’s dinner wasn’t too special, pork, roasted potatoes and broccoli. Tonight we are having a V Day dinner somewhere special, it’s a surprise from Tim! Yesterday’s V Day treat was a frosted heart shaped cookie from Cheryl & Co, yum! Love the new blog design by the way.. :-)

I really enjoy chicken marsala but I never make it since the hubs doesn’t eat mushrooms. :( I also really enjoy Reese’s Hearts. I didn’t have one this year, but I’m looking forward to Reese’s Eggs for Easter.

LOVE the new look!!

I TOTALLY copied Julie (and now you) on that card with the hearts thing!! It was SO fun to make for the hubby. And super cheesy too. Hah.

We made dinner together–heart shaped pizzas, and it was AWESOME. Used that pizza crust I make. Isn’t that just a winner?!!

First, I LOVE the new blog design!! It just looks so clean and fresh! The best part of my Valentines meal was the shrimp arugula mascarpone bruschetta my boyfriend made! I love your meal because I LOVE chicken marsala, and everything tastes better when a significant other makes it :)

I love the new look! It’s really cute! And that dinner looks delicious! Haha reese’s hearts (and eggs for that matter) are so ridiculously delicious. Mostly due to the high peanut butter to chocolate ratio.

That love letter is toooo cute! Such a sweet little gesture! I totally made a handmade card for hubby this year too just for fun.
We totally went traditional and went out to eat at Olive Garden for V-day, it was super yummy and we thankfully beat the crowd so it was very nice overall! :-)

Oh that does look delicious! My boyfriend is the same way, once in a while he’ll impress me and make something so good! I secretly think he’s a good cook, just pretends he’s not so he only has to do it on special occasions! haha
That poster is so cute! I love it! Such a fun idea!
Glad you two had a great Valentines!

I love the new layout of your blog!!
I made the husband his favorite dinner last night and got him a box of chocolates, but he ended up having to work late so he took some leftovers for lunch today and a piece of chocolate ;) It was the thought that counts right?
