A Girls’ Day At Its Finest

by Ashley on March 3, 2012

Guess who is visiting me this weekend for my birthday?!?!

My beautiful Momma!!

It’s been such a treat to have her here!  Yesterday we had an all out girls’ day complete with a fitness class in the morning, afternoon tea/lunch, and then lots of shopping.  Doesn’t that sound like a girls’ day at its finest?! Smile

I’m really excited to fill you in on our tea time experience.  The Grand America, a really nice hotel in downtown Salt Lake City, has an afternoon tea time that serves hot tea (of course) and a ton of little tea “goodies”.  The tea snacks were perfect for a lunch, as there were plenty of tea sandwiches and desserts to keep us going all afternoon.

We started out with a glass that had strawberries ‘n cream inside.  The cream was incredibly thick and delicious, especially paired with the sweet strawberries.

We both chose their Earl Grey tea which paired perfectly with all of the savory tea sandwiches and the desserts.  It was a great choice!

Next came a variety of tea sandwiches and a sweet English scone for each of us.  Below are the tea sandwiches which we dug into right away (hence the reason half of them are missing in the photo).  We were hungggrrry!

The English scone was one of my favorite things that they served us.  I topped half of mine with a delicious strawberry jam and ate the other side plain.  YUM!

Next came the bite size dessert trays which was definitely the highlight!  Talk about perfect for two women with incredibly large sweet tooths! Winking smile  I don’t remember the names of all of the desserts, but we loved all of them except for a couple that were just “okay”.  See those chocolate bars at the bottom?  INCREDIBLE.

It was so nice to just chat about life and enjoy some delicious eats and hot tea together!

We also hit up the mall to do some shopping.  We each got a few new tops and I got a pair of Sperry shoes!  I’ve been wanting them for quite awhile, so I was quite happy when I walked away with them.  Thanks Momma!

We ended the evening at home with some homemade pizza for dinner.  I made Cody his favorite – pepperoni, black olive, and mushrooms on regular dough.  My mom and I made a pizza on whole wheat dough with sliced tomato, spinach, chopped onion, and feta.  It was SO good!

After dinner we were all feeling pretty lazy, so we decided to watch “Forever Strong” on Netflix.  We didn’t know how we’d like it at first, but we all ended up really enjoying it!

This morning we’re lounging, I’m going to go on a run in a bit, and then we’re going to try to figure out something fun to do this afternoon.  I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday!

Questions:

  • Have you ever gone to an afternoon tea time?
  • What is your favorite kind of hot tea?
  • Have you seen “Forever Strong”?  If so, what’d you think?

I got those same Sperry’s in a different color last summer but I just can’t seem to break them in! They just give me blisters on my heel :/ Let me know if you have any tips to make them more comfy!

oh bummer! i wore them around today, and i can see how they could bother your heel a bit. they have heel cushion things you can stick on the inside of the shoe… have you ever tried those?

I’ve never had afternoon tea – but when I was on a cruise, I went to the afternoon tea and ate the desserts that came with it :-) Just no tea. I’m not sure why – I love tea!

LOVE those Sperry’s! I’ve been wanting those ones with the shorter front for a while, but I want to wait until my old ones are really worn out so I feel like I actually need them :-)

I actually studied abroad in London and did a special afternoon tea there. I miss it so much! I actually threw a surprise afternoon tea party for my mom on Mother’s Day last year. Looks like a great girls’ day!

That place looks adorable! I don’t think there are any tea-type restaurants near me, at least none that I know of :(
