Bacon, Cheese, & Avocado Turkey Burger

With the nice weather lately, Cody and I have been on a grilling kick.  Anything we can think of to grill, we do!  Grilled food just tastes so good, and I love that it doesn’t heat up the house and makes for an easy clean up.  It’s a win win for sure!

The other day I was wanting to put a little spin on the original turkey burger.  Cody prefers regular hamburgers over turkey burgers, so I wanted to “dress it up” a little bit hoping that he wouldn’t complain as much would like it better.

And this is how the Bacon, Cheese, & Avocado Turkey Burger all came about…

Bacon, Cheese, & Avocado Turkey Burger

Servings: 4

Prep Time: About 10 minutes

Cook Time: About 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1/3 cup dry Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slices muenster cheese
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 1 medium avocado
  • 4 whole wheat hamburger buns

Directions:

  1. Preheat grill on high.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together turkey, breadcrumbs, worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Form into four patties and set on a plate.
  4. Turn grill temperature to medium-high heat.
  5. Place patties on grill.  Keep the grill lid closed as much as possible.
  6. After about 4-5 minutes, flip burgers over.
  7. While burgers are cooking, cook the bacon on a skillet.
  8. About 2 minutes before taking the burgers off the grill, add slices of cheese to each burger patty.
  9. Take burgers off the grill after the cheese is melted.
  10. Place burger patties on a hamburger bun, add a slice of bacon, and a 1/4 of the avocado.
  11. Eat up and enjoy!

I love bacon and avocado on burgers! I like turkey burgers a lot, but Daniel feels the same as Cody. They were always sort of dry, so I decided to add in some extra moisture and veggies at the same time. To my turkey burger mix, I add in one shredded zucchini (I finely shred it in the food processor). It keeps the moisture packed into the burger without changing the taste or texture. SO good!

We love to grill, but our grill is completely dead from years of use. Daniel has been cooking everything in the smoker lately, and it is incredibly delicious. Have a great weekend!

We have a few favorites, last week we made spicy chicken guacamole burgers with Havarti cheese and turkey bacon which were excellent, and for turkey burgers I have a recipe that uses apples and bacon in the burger, then we also love the perfect veggie burger from Oh She Glows, we love grilling too! haha
We have nothing really planned this weekend, it was a busy month so I am happy for a quiet weekend. Maybe a golf game, Costco trip and some baking :)

Looks DELICIOUS! My kinda burger. Question-I do not have a grill and am terrible with the stove and burgers…always burn them. Any tips for if this would work okay on a stove top?

definitely make sure you use some cooking spray or oil so it won’t stick, don’t cook it on too high of a temperature, and make sure you watch it closely!

i LOVE bison burgers! bison meat is so good for you (very lean), and it’s full of flavor. i hope you’re able to get that grill soon! and yes, starting a blog is definitely a learning process. it took me several months to get the hang of things, and i’m still learning along the way. good luck! :)

Bacon always makes it better! To be honest, if I can get it crispy enough I don’t even notice the difference between turkey bacon and pork bacon. Try to slip that in next time, I bet Cody won’t even be able to to tell! ;)

Yum! These look super tasty Ashley! I love grilling, but don’t know how to do it properly, so I have to wait until I go to my parents when their grilling to get in on it.
